Course Description:   SOCY 410 Social Demography (3)   (Fulfills the civic responsibility requirement.)  Prerequisite: 3 credits in sociology. A study of social demography. Topics include types of demographic analysis, demographic data, population characteristics, migration, mortality, fertility, population theories, world population growth, and population policy.

Grading Information and Criteria:   Your final grade for SOCY 410 will be based on the following criteria:

A = 90% and above
B = 80-89%
C = 70-79%
D = 60-69%
F = 59% and below

Written assignments will be graded for both content and writing. Assignments should demonstrate thorough coverage of the topic, excellent use of materials, accuracy of information, logical and clear organization of ideas, and correct sentence structure, punctuation,and grammar.

Class participation points come from discussing chapters, lectures, or opinions in a constructive manner. Everyone should feel free to speak up, but the frequency of speaking up will not be the only part of class participation. The quality of participation counts as much as participating itself.

Project Descriptions:   Weekly contributions or assignments will cover topics and ideas focusing on the various aspects of the SOCY 410.
